...i started having contractions on tuesday but they were sparatic, 10 mins for a while then they'd go away, i was already 3cms dialated at my doc apt on tuesday so i knew stuff was happening, which was good cause if it wasn't this could have lasted for weeks..
wednesday i was having contractions about 10-7 mins apart, fairly regularly, by the night they were 7mins consistently, i went out for some yummy sushi with jerai and regan and they were adamant that we had to time them and that i was going to have the baby that night.
i knew it wasn't quite at that point, so after a trip to walmart for some little things, and a visit with regan and jon, and some midnight cleaning and blogging. i packed some last minute little things. i tried to go to sleep at 1.
well that lasted until 2am, then i was sure they were getting closer but didn't want to get my hopes up so i just tried to ignore them and sleep some more. finally at 4am i told dave we had to get andy up and go to the hospital. he grabbed his iphone and started timing my contractions, after 10 of them variying from 4mins-6mins he concurred we should go.
we went to the hospital at 5am when they were 5 mins apart and fairly strong, i had to stop what i was doing and breathe through it with a funny face that always makes dave say 'what? whats wrong?' lol. we got to the hospital and i was pretty sure i was in labor but i could have been wrong, i just didn't want to get sent home like last time, dave actually said just before the nurse checked me '10 bucks they send us home'
she checked me out and i was 6cms dilated, whoo hoo, we got to stay.
awkard part of being in a shared observation room = the other girl who had come in right on my tail, was going through the check list of things the nurses like to ask - drinking, smoking, std's etc.....well, she started smoking in her 3rd trimester, dave and i had to roll our eyes, honestly your 3rd trimester, either she was lying or she had really bad self control, i was trying not to judge, but it was really hard not too, how you could someone risk their babies health to be a 'casual smoker in your 3rd trimester' we were shocked....
moved into the delivery room and got the epidural by 7am, rested for a bit, my contractions varied from 2-4 mins apart, the resident broke my water -the babys head was still higher in my pelvis so they were kinda waiting on calling my doctor.
so for me, my contractions never really get to be super duper close together, which usually happens when you get further into labor. so my nurse didn't check me out because it didn't really seem like things were moving along, but i would have a contraction and then i'd throw up,
so this happened like 10 times - i should have asked the nurse to check me out but i didn't and when my doctor got there at 12;30 she said 'oh yea we can have this baby already' like i could have pushed her out already!! the baby was at a plus 2 and plus 5 is crowning... YIKES lol
so after all that and pushing, then finding out she was posterior, so face up instead of down like she should have been, and feeling like she was stuck and never coming out, even a couple attempts with the vaccum and that didn't work, pushed her out and she was born at 1;31. we were at the hospital for 7 hrs, i didn't think it was a long labor, but i don't know when other people start keeping track of 'labor'
dave and i were both SO happy to hear she was a girl. dave sighed a huge sigh of relief and said ' oh i'm so happy, we didn't have a boys name picked out!'
my reaction was similar but different - 'oh im so happy i never have to do this again !!!!'

Great to hear the story. What did you do with Andy? Did you have to bring him somewhere? I'm glad everything went fairly smooth. Congrats.
we took him to my parents, who conviently live just across the river from RUH so we dropped him off just before going to the hospital
